Get To Know Our Pastor
Alex Pittaway grew up in Sydney where he attended a Christian school and worshipped in an evangelical church. Although he grew up in the church, Alex always knew that there was something different in his life.
During a family holiday on the Gold Coast as a teenager, Alex realized that he was gay. This discovery scared him because he thought that God would condemn him, his family would reject him, his school would expel him and his church would shun him. One day, God’s light broke through the cage of his fear and reassured him that he was loved unconditionally.
From that point on, Alex’s faith and relationship with Jesus took on new life. Alex started attending MCC Sydney where he met people who had been told that they were outside of God’s grace. But Alex saw these people worshipping God with all their heart, and he knew that he wanted to be a part of this community.
Over the next six years, Alex worked as a volunteer minister with MCC Sydney including spending time on the Young Adult Advisory Board. He studied communications at Macquarie University before responding to a call from God to be a pastor. He is currently completing his Master of Divinity at Christian Theological Seminary in the USA.
While in the USA, Alex has spent two years as an intern minister with Life Journey MCC in Indianapolis, Indiana, as well as a year as a student minister in an innovative program called Learning Ministry. During his training, he has worked with different churches and a Young Adults Ministry. He has organised youth retreats and led Bible study groups, as well as being a church worship leader.
Pastor Alex is passionate about practical, relevant, prophetic, and entertaining preaching. He has deep reverence and passion for the Bible, and loves getting into the history and richness of the word of God. Scripture is always the centre of both his preaching, and of his faith and devotional life.
Alex’s vision for MCC Brisbane is for the church to be an authentic and relevant community, where the Gospel is preached, where love abounds, where worship lifts us to God and where we make a difference in the world.
